Submissions

Presence is seeking haiku, senryu, tanka, renku, haibun and other haiku-related poetry and haiku-related essays. All work should be original, unpublished and not under consideration elsewhere.

Please send only one set of haiku/tanka submisiions and/or one set of haibun submissions per issue. Haiku/tanka should contain 4-12 poems in the set and be printed on a single sheet — it isn’t necessary to use a separate piece of paper for each poem. Haibun submissions should contain no more that 5 haibun in the set.

Presence is now a subscriber-only journal. We no longer offer free contributor copies. You do not need to subscribe before submitting to Presence, but acceptance is conditional on receipt of either a subscription or at least an order for the single issue in which your poem is planned to appear.

Any haiku or other work published in Presence may be used on the Presence web site without further permission being sought, and submission to Presence is taken as acceptance of this condition.

How to submit

For e-mail submissions, include all poems in the body of the text, not as an attachment, and use the subject line: Presence.

For postal submissions, the poems should be printed on a single sheet—it isn't necessary to use a separate sheet for each haiku. To ensure a reply, please include an s.a.e. and also a US$1 bill or 2 IRCs with all overseas submissions.
