We are very sorry to have to share the sad news about Martin we have received from his brother Len. Unfortunately a body found at Lytham Beach, south of Blackpool, on Monday morning, has now been formally identified as Martin. Len says that it is most likely that Martin’s last moments were spent along the river Ribble, an area which he loved and celebrated in a number of his wonderful haiku. Martin will of course be missed enormously by his friends and family, but he leaves, too, a huge gap in the haiku world and particularly at this magazine.
Presence is a haiku magazine, specialising in publishing high quality haiku, senryu, tanka, renku and related poetry. It appears 2 times per year. Each issue is typically 60–76 A5 pages, and contains haibun (haiku prose), articles on haiku practice, news of haiku events and book reviews in addition to the poetry. We welcome submissions from experienced and novice haiku writers alike.
